Job Description
El Pueblito is an authentic Mexican restaurant in Bracebridge, Ontario, and we are looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our team. This is a temporary position, and we are seeking a dedicated professional with a love for Mexican cuisine and a strong ability to lead a kitchen team.
As a Sous Chef, you will be a key player in our kitchen, assisting the Head Chef in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Â Assist the Head Chef in planning and directing food preparation and cooking activities.
- Â Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff, ensuring all procedures are followed and standards are met.
- Â Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes, specializing in authentic Mexican cuisine.
- Â Help to create new menu items and specials, contributing to the restaurant’s culinary creativity.
- Â Manage kitchen inventory and ordering, ensuring a steady supply of fresh ingredients.
- Â Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen sanitation.
- Â Train new kitchen staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food.
- Â Work in a fast-paced environment, often under pressure, and support a positive team atmosphere.
- Qualifications and Requirements:
- Â A minimum of 2 – 3 years of experience – as a cook in a commercial kitchen is mandatory, with previous experience in a leadership or sous chef role considered a strong asset.
- Proven knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety regulations, and inventory management.
- Experience with Mexican cuisine is a significant advantage.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
